The Weaver

Introduction

THE WEAVER

This suite of small tapestries is part of the collaborative LOOM project that you can read more about elsewhere on this site. The tapestry designs are inspired by the short story, THE WEAVER, by Orcadian writer, George Mackay Brown and the texts that accompany the tapestries are taken from the story. I was already fascinated by the theme through having made work for LOOM and I found I wanted to explore the story in more depth, as it appears in the narrative – a series of sharp, bright, detailed miniatures, describing the passage of the year and the rhythm of work. The WEAVER tapestries have been exhibited at the 2014 Laeso Arts Festival, Denmark and will be on show at Southwell Minster in October 2016 These tapestries have been exhibited as part of the LOOM project in Elliotts Mill, Selkirk, as part of the YES festival, at the Tramway, Glasgow, An Lanntair, Stornoway and in Delhi and Chennai as part of the Parks Festival of performing arts.
